We are very excited to announce our Second Annual Pet Photo Contest!

We are welcoming submissions now and through Sep 15th. Then we will select a dozen finalists and open up online voting for the whole world to choose the winner.

The winner will receive a FREE 18″ Portrait by Pop Art Pet!

Just like last year we want to give you, our blog visitors, an advantage by giving you some pointers on taking or choosing a winning picture of your pet to enter.

Of course cute goes a long way but quality is key, so when you submit a photo for us to consider you should consider the composition, a head-shot is probably best. We like to tell our clients when they are taking pictures for their dog portrait or cat portrait to imagine they are taking a picture for the school yearbook.
Lighting is also important of course, and don’t forget focus, focus, focus! For more information about what makes an ideal photo for a Pop Art Pet portrait, and suggestions on how to take one, you may want to review our photo tips page.

We will select the 12 finalists based on the quality and overall appeal of the photos, but we are also requesting a little background information about your pet and what makes them so special to you. The story you write will also be taken into consideration because we love a great pet tale!

You have until September 15th, but be sure and send us your photo soon. The finalists will be announced and contacted on September 18th. Then online voting will go on until September 30th, and we’ll announce the winner on Wednesday, October 1st.

Please go to our contest page to learn more about the details of the contest, to ENTER, and to read the fine print regarding the rules and regulations.

We look forward to seeing your adorable pet – Good Luck!

Rescue Ink is not your typical animal rescue organization! Yes, they ride motorcycles and have lots of tattoos but what brought this burly group of guys together is their love of animals.

They formed “Rescue Ink” because they believe the problems of animal abuse and neglect has become more than existing animal welfare agencies can handle. They describe their methods as “in your face” when it comes to confronting abusers and explain that they “will stop at nothing within the bounds of the law to protect animals at risk.” On their website they state, “We will intercede without hesitation when we are informed of a situation that needs to be addressed, and we will address it. If we need to convince people to do the right thing … we can be very convincing, we’ll even buy animals if that’s what it takes to get them away from abusers.”

We say good for them!

You can learn more about them and how you can help on their website, rescueink.org. Check it out!

We found this in the “L.A. Unleashed” section of the Los Angeles Times. It seems both the House and Senate versions of the “Defense Authorization Bill” contain provisions providing for the government to pay the cost of relocating two pets when a military family is ordered to leave an overseas duty station.

Cats and dogs are certain to be covered, according to the Marine Corps Times. It’s unclear whether birds, fish, reptiles and horses will be eligible.

President Bush, a dog lover, wants the bill on his desk by Oct. 1.

We’ve been especially busy this summer with even more multiple pet projects than usual! Almost everybody has wanted at least two pets in their portraits, like adorable Airedales Chief & Raya,

And this retro cat portrait of Reggie & Zeke

In addition there were Hachiko & Zoey, Ilka & Tovarish, and you already saw Boomer & Bonnie, just to name a few.

And recently we’ve moved beyond the dynamic duos to some terrific trios. Like these three traditional designs of Sophia, Willie, and Bambino.

Plus check out the Pop Art portraits of sisters, Katie, Shula, and Trina.

So we’ve had an action packed summer so far and love that so many happy households have so many multiple happy pets!
