While the organization strives to raise awareness of the plight of shelter animals year-round, in October they place special emphasis on urging potential pet parents to consider choosing from the millions of adoptable, endangered, companion animals in shelters across the country.

Something you should be aware of, according to Ed Sayres, President & CEO of the ASPCA, approximately 5 out of 10 of the animals in shelters in the US are euthanized simply because there is no one to adopt them.
